72% of Cambodia’s Border Ring Road Completed After Major UXO Clearance
PHNOM PENH, Feb 3, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has completed more than 72 percent of its strategic border ring road following extensive mine and unexploded ordnance clearance, the national task force overseeing the Border Infrastructure Fund said Monday.
From December 2024 to January 11, 2026, engineering teams deployed 286 vehicles and machines across Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri provinces, clearing 6.04 million square meters of contaminated land — 96.6 percent of the targeted area — to enable safe construction.

Crews have completed key structural works, including box culverts, concrete pipe crossings, water retention structures, small dams and a concrete bridge. Over 120 kilometers of crushed stone base have been laid, alongside corridor clearing, earthworks and drainage installation.
Progress varies by province, with Mondulkiri reaching more than 91 percent completion and Ratanakiri surpassing 51 percent. Along finished sections, six fund signposts have been installed and 936 palmyra palms planted as national identity markers.
Officials said stabilization and permanent works in Mondulkiri are expected by March 2026, with construction accelerating in more difficult terrain. The task force reaffirmed its commitment to transparent management of the Border Infrastructure Fund and pledged regular updates on progress.
