Chinese Ambassador Expresses Confidence in Cambodia’s Development Path

PHNOM PENH, Feb 2, 2026 (KPT) – China’s ambassador to Cambodia has voiced confidence in the country’s continued economic development, citing three decades of growth and political stability.
In a social media post, Ambassador Wang Wenbin highlighted Cambodia’s progress since the mid-1990s, noting that gross domestic product had risen from about $2.8 billion in 1994 to more than $46 billion in 2024. GDP per capita, he added, had increased nearly ninefold over the same period.
“We firmly believe that no difficulty can stop Cambodia’s path of development,” Wang said, adding that China had “full confidence” in Phnom Penh’s development vision.
The ambassador praised Cambodia’s leadership, saying the country would achieve its national development goals under the auspices of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of former prime minister Hun Sen and current Prime Minister Hun Manet.
Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Cambodia’s growth and post-crisis recovery, describing Beijing as a long-term partner and “trusted friend.”
China is one of Cambodia’s largest investors and trading partners, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, trade, education and development assistance.
