Cambodia and Thailand Resume Border Talks Amid Ongoing Negotiations

PHNOM PENH, Feb 2, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Thailand held a special meeting on Monday to discuss border issues, officials said, as both countries continue efforts to ease tensions along their shared frontier.

The talks took place at the Choam-Sa Ngam International Point of Entry in Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province, under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

Delegations included the Secretariat of the Regional Border Committee (RBC) from Cambodia’s 4th Military Region and Thailand’s 2nd Army Area.

According to Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, the two sides did not reach a final agreement and will return to their respective headquarters to continue exchanging documents and negotiating.

A formal signing ceremony is expected once consensus is achieved, followed by a meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Military Region Border Committee.

The discussions were held in line with the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the outcomes of that meeting, strengthening cooperation, and restoring stability along the border.

The meeting underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts by Phnom Penh and Bangkok to reduce border tensions and maintain regional peace.
