Cambodian PM visits evacuees in Preah Vihear amid safety concerns
PHNOM PENH, Jan 31, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Saturday visited families displaced by recent border clashes, meeting evacuees at the Wat Bak Kam Safety Center in Tbeng Meanchey district, Preah Vihear province, where 540 families are currently sheltering.
During the visit, Hun Manet spoke with residents about their well-being and expressed gratitude to government teams, local authorities, volunteers, philanthropists, and national and international organisations for their support in providing temporary relief.
Authorities said efforts are underway to clear unexploded ordnance and restore security so that families can safely return home.
For those unable to do so, the government is reinforcing temporary shelters and exploring relocation options while ensuring daily livelihoods are maintained.
At the same time, assessments are being carried out on schools, health facilities, markets, roads, bridges, water, electricity and telecommunications, with funding from national resources and development partners expected to support the restoration of essential services.
The prime minister’s visit underscores the government’s pledge to safeguard displaced communities and to address the wider humanitarian and reconstruction challenges caused by the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict.
