PHNOM PENH, January 30, 2026 (KPT) – Three workers from an electricity transmission company were injured in a cluster munition explosion in Oddar Meanchey province, Cambodia’s Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) said.

The blast occurred on January 29 in Banteay Ampil district while the employees were carrying out maintenance work. Two sustained serious injuries and one was lightly wounded, according to the CMAA.

In a statement, the authority said the incident underscored the ongoing danger posed by unexploded cluster munitions left behind after decades of conflict. It expressed sympathy to the victims and pledged support through medical treatment, rehabilitation and other assistance services.

The CMAA warned that explosive remnants of war continue to threaten lives, disrupt livelihoods and hinder development across Cambodia, with civilians – including farmers, laborers and children – remaining the most vulnerable.

It reiterated the need for clearance operations, risk education and victim assistance, urging institutions, companies and development partners working in former conflict zones to coordinate closely with mine action organizations.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the humanitarian impact of explosive remnants of war and said it would continue working with national and international partners to reduce risks and protect communities.
