Cambodia Deports Over 200 South Korean, Myanmar Nationals in Cyber Fraud Crackdown

PHNOM PENH, Jan 23, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has deported more than 200 foreign nationals, including South Koreans and Myanmar citizens, as part of a nationwide crackdown on cyber fraud, officials said Friday.

The government said 209 people – 73 South Koreans and 136 Myanmar nationals – were deported on Thursday to allow their home countries to pursue legal action.

According to the General Department of Immigration, those expelled included both suspected perpetrators and victims of cyber scams previously detained in Cambodia.

Some had been lured into working for criminal networks, while others were believed to have played active roles.

Authorities noted this was not the first such action. In 2025, Cambodia deported 244 South Koreans under similar circumstances.

Officials said the deportations highlight strict enforcement of Cambodian law and determination to dismantle transnational cybercrime networks, while also rescuing victims deceived into joining scam operations.

Between January 1 and 22, Cambodia deported 1,620 foreign nationals from 21 countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, China, Pakistan and Indonesia.

Nationwide operations over the past seven months have led to 5,106 arrests and 4,534 deportations, while courts pursued 37 major cases, convicting 172 ringleaders and accomplices.

The government said law enforcement agencies, working with international partners, will continue applying the “strictest legal measures” against cyber fraud networks.
