Cambodia and Saudi Arabia reaffirm ties during ambassador’s farewell visit

PHNOM PENH, Jan.09,2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during a farewell courtesy call by the Saudi ambassador to Phnom Penh, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn received Mohammed Ismaeil A. Dahlwy, who is based in Hanoi and accredited to Cambodia, as he concluded his diplomatic mission.
Prak Sokhonn congratulated the envoy on completing his tenure and praised his role in promoting cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides noted progress in ties since diplomatic relations were established and stressed the importance of maintaining momentum through high‑level exchanges.
They cited recent visits, including Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen’s trip to Saudi Arabia in December 2024 and Shura Council Speaker Abdullah Mohammed Ibrahim Al‑Sheikh’s visit to Cambodia in July 2025.
The two governments welcomed last year’s memorandum of understanding on trade promotion. Dahlwy said a Saudi business delegation would visit Cambodia soon to explore cooperation
in agriculture, food security, energy and other sectors, and reaffirmed plans to open a resident embassy in Phnom Penh.
Prak Sokhonn highlighted efforts to boost connectivity and tourism, including potential direct flights between Phnom Penh and Riyadh, and thanked Saudi Arabia for scholarships offered to Cambodian students.
