Phnom Penh, Jan.08,2026 (KPT)—Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to peace and the protection of its internationally recognized border with Thailand.

On Jan. 8, 2026, government spokesperson Pen Bona said Cambodia consistently seeks peaceful solutions and strictly implements the cease-fire agreement.

He emphasized that the Cambodia-Thailand border is defined by the Franco-Siamese and Indochina-Siam Boundary Commissions and is protected under international law, historical treaties, official maps and demarcation markers.

“Cambodia does not recognize any changes to the border imposed by force,” Bona said, underlining the country’s firm stance on safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The spokesperson also urged citizens to uphold national unity and remember the lessons of history, quoting Prime Minister Hun Sen: “Unity is life, unity is victory,” and adding that no force can break the determination of the Cambodian people.

Bona said Cambodia is fully implementing the cease-fire agreed Dec. 27, 2025, as well as the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement of Oct. 26, to restore peace and stability.

He noted that Cambodia’s diplomatic stance has resulted in several agreements with Thailand, including a cease-fire reached in Putrajaya in July 2025, the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement in October and the most recent cease-fire agreed at a Special General Border Committee meeting Dec. 27, which took effect at midday the same day.

Bona concluded that Cambodia’s leadership remains committed to defending sovereignty through diplomacy and peaceful negotiations, saying these efforts have reassured the public and strengthened national unity.
