PHNOM PENH, Jan.08,2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has received mine-clearing equipment from China to support humanitarian operations in the country’s mine action sector.

The handover ceremony was held Jan. 8, 2026, at the Mine Action Authority headquarters in Phnom Penh.

It was attended by Ly Thuch, first deputy of the Mine Action Authority, and Wang Wenbin, China’s ambassador to Cambodia. The donation included metal detectors, tools, supplies and vehicles.

Thuch said China’s support goes beyond providing equipment, calling it “a vital means to protect, provide hope, and transform lives.” He said the equipment will help mine-clearance personnel work safely and effectively to remove landmines and unexploded ordnance.

On behalf of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Thuch expressed gratitude for China’s broader contributions, including funding, technical expertise, risk-reduction education and humanitarian assistance for mine victims.

He said such support has protected lives, restored communities and helped survivors rebuild their futures.

Thuch also highlighted China’s role in the Mekong-Lancang cooperation project on mine action, supported by the Special Fund for Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.

He praised China’s efforts to promote peace and humanitarian assistance in border areas affected by recent tensions with Thailand.

Most recently, China provided humanitarian aid worth 20 million yuan ($2.8 million) to support refugees displaced by military actions near the Cambodia–Thailand border.
