TOKYO, Japan (Oct. 24, 2025) — Cambodian Senior Minister Ly Thuch has called on Japan to maintain its support for Cambodia’s humanitarian mine action program, describing it as essential to restoring hope and improving lives across the country.

Thuch, who also serves as First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, made the appeal during a meeting with Japanese lawmaker Aisawa Ichiro at the National Diet Building in Tokyo.

Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Thuch expressed gratitude for Japan’s “steadfast friendship” and its contributions to Cambodia’s peacebuilding and development.

Aisawa commended Cambodia’s progress in development and demining, reaffirming Japan’s commitment to close cooperation. He thanked Cambodia for sending students to Japan and encouraged more government officials to pursue studies there.

He added that he plans to visit Cambodia soon, accompanied by business leaders from Okayama, to explore further opportunities for partnership and investment.
