Cambodia Urges Continued Japanese Support for Mine Action in Cambodia
TOKYO, Japan (Oct. 24, 2025) — Cambodian Senior Minister Ly Thuch has called on Japan to maintain its support for Cambodia’s humanitarian mine action program, describing it as essential to restoring hope and improving lives across the country.
Thuch, who also serves as First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, made the appeal during a meeting with Japanese lawmaker Aisawa Ichiro at the National Diet Building in Tokyo.
Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Thuch expressed gratitude for Japan’s “steadfast friendship” and its contributions to Cambodia’s peacebuilding and development.
He highlighted Japanese investment as a driver of job creation and praised educational exchanges for strengthening Cambodia’s human resources.
Thuch also invited Aisawa and representatives from the Okayama Chamber of Commerce and Industry to visit Cambodia to explore investment opportunities.
Aisawa commended Cambodia’s progress in development and demining, reaffirming Japan’s commitment to close cooperation. He thanked Cambodia for sending students to Japan and encouraged more government officials to pursue studies there.
He added that he plans to visit Cambodia soon, accompanied by business leaders from Okayama, to explore further opportunities for partnership and investment.
