Two Cambodian soldiers injured in Preah Vihear border blast

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Jan.06,2026) — Two Cambodian soldiers were injured in an explosion near the border with Thailand on Jan. 6, the Ministry of National Defence said.

The blast occurred at 7:27 a.m. in the Mum Bei area of Preah Vihear province while Cambodian forces were conducting routine operations within the country’s sovereign territory, the ministry said in a statement.

One soldier sustained minor injuries and another was seriously hurt. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Cambodia–Thailand Border Coordination Working Team is investigating the incident, and officials from both countries have exchanged information to address the matter, according to the statement.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving border issues peacefully under international law.

It cited adherence to the ceasefire signed with Thailand on July 28, 2025, the joint peace declaration of Oct. 26, 2025, and the third special meeting of the General Border Committee on Dec. 27, 2025, among other agreements.

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces said these measures are intended to restore peace, stability and security for residents living along the border.
