PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Jan. 3, 2026) — Cambodia on Thursday briefed representatives from 22 diplomatic missions and international organizations in Phnom Penh on the latest developments along the Cambodia–Thailand border, including ceasefire efforts, the release of Cambodian soldiers and the humanitarian impact of ongoing hostilities.

Chann Rotana, undersecretary of state and acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, addressed 25 representatives during the Jan. 2 briefing.

He outlined three key issues: the joint statement of the 3rd Special General Border Committee issued Dec. 27, 2025; the outcomes of the trilateral meeting of foreign ministers and senior military officials of Cambodia, Thailand and China held Dec. 29 in Yunnan Province; and the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers on Dec. 31.

The ministry also updated the diplomatic community on civilian casualties, including deaths, injuries and displacement, as well as extensive damage from what it described as indiscriminate attacks by Thai armed forces on Cambodian territory and civilian areas.

Rotana expressed appreciation to friendly countries and international partners for humanitarian assistance, with special thanks to China for its continued support, either directly or through international organizations and NGOs.

The briefing underscored Cambodia’s efforts to keep the international community informed as diplomatic and humanitarian coordination continues amid border tensions.
