PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 30, 2025) — Cambodia’s defense ministry said Tuesday that calm continues to hold along the Cambodia–Thailand border, with no reports of gunfire since a ceasefire took effect late last week.

But officials stressed that Cambodia remains committed to honoring the truce even as Thailand has yet to fulfill key obligations.

At a daily press briefing, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, said the situation in military regions 4 and 5 remained stable between Dec. 27 and Dec. 30.

She said Cambodian forces had recorded no fresh attacks, while the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remain on high alert to protect territorial integrity.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully implementing all agreed principles, including the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord signed in October and witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Officials noted, however, that Thailand has not yet released 18 Cambodian soldiers detained during clashes in July, despite pledging to do so under the accord and the General Border Committee agreement.

Cambodia said it will continue to uphold the ceasefire in good faith, urging Thailand to meet its commitments to ensure trust, stability and lasting peace along the border.
