Cambodia reports no border firing, reaffirms ceasefire commitment

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec.29,2025) — Cambodia said Monday there have been no exchanges of fire along its border with Thailand since a ceasefire took effect late last week.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, told reporters that Cambodian authorities recorded no attacks by Thai forces between noon Dec. 27 and 4 p.m. Dec. 29.

She said the situation in military regions four and five remained stable as both sides continued to observe the truce agreed at a General Border Committee meeting on Dec. 27.

Socheata said the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces remain on high alert to safeguard territorial integrity. She added that the government and public are united and authorities are closely monitoring developments along the frontier.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to implementing the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, signed by the Cambodian and Thai prime ministers during the ASEAN Summit in October and witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Cambodia and Thailand agreed to the ceasefire during the border committee meeting in Thailand, effective from noon Dec. 27 for an initial 72 hours.

Cambodia said the agreement also includes Thailand’s pledge to release 18 Cambodian soldiers captured during the first armed clash in July, in line with the peace accord.
