Cambodian Communities in Europe Demand Global Action as Civilian Toll Rises in Thai Border Attacks
PARIS / OSLO (Dec. 21, 2025) — Cambodian communities across Europe intensified calls for urgent international intervention over the weekend, staging large rallies in France and Norway to condemn what they described as Thailand’s continued military aggression against Cambodia.
In Paris, about 2,500 Cambodians gathered at Trocadéro Square, braving cold rain to demand an immediate end to cross border attacks. Protesters waved flags, carried banners and chanted for peace, urging global institutions to act before the conflict escalates further. The demonstration drew political attention with the presence of Thomas Lam, a French member of parliament and president of the Cambodia–France Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Protesters accused Thai forces of sustained strikes into Cambodian territory, causing civilian casualties and damage to cultural and World Heritage sites. They demanded the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers allegedly detained by Thai forces in July, and pressed Thailand to honor the Oct. 26 peace agreement signed with U.S. and Malaysian mediation.
Parallel demonstrations in Kristiansand and Oslo saw Cambodian–Norwegian citizens urging Norway to exert diplomatic pressure on Thailand.
Cambodia’s Interior Ministry said Thai attacks since Dec. 7 have killed 20 civilians and injured 79, displacing more than 525,000 people, including nearly 275,000 women and 167,000 children.
