KUALA LUMPUR (Dec. 22, 2025) — Malaysia’s foreign minister said Monday he expects a special ASEAN meeting in Kuala Lumpur to deliver a “fruitful outcome,” including a renewal of the ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur peace accord signed by Cambodia and Thailand.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, speaking at the opening session, said the accord — witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald Trump — remains central to efforts to halt border clashes.

“It is my hope this meeting will renew our efforts to return stability to the affected area. ASEAN must do what is necessary to maintain peace and stability,” Hasan said.

He added that the meeting’s goal extends beyond de-escalation, stressing the need to strengthen dialogue and rebuild trust. “We must intensify trust-building among the conflicting parties and provide a platform for comprehensive dialogue,” he said.
