Brazil Opens Embassy in Phnom Penh as Nations Expand Cooperation
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 2, 2025) — Cambodia and Brazil marked a new milestone in their 30-year diplomatic relationship Tuesday as Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet received Vivian Loss Sanmartin, Brazil’s first resident ambassador to Cambodia.
Sanmartin said her appointment reflects the steady growth of bilateral ties and the significance of both countries opening embassies. She and Hun Manet discussed expanding cooperation in economic, educational, agricultural, environmental, renewable energy, health and security sectors.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the ambassador’s mission and voiced confidence that relations will deepen during her tenure. He encouraged her to work closely with Cambodian ministries to advance practical cooperation and strengthen investment and trade opportunities.
The two sides also reviewed collaboration within the ASEAN framework. Sanmartin thanked Cambodia for supporting Brazil’s role as an ASEAN sectoral dialogue partner, underscoring Brazil’s commitment to engage more deeply in regional affairs.
Officials said the embassy’s opening signals a new chapter in Cambodia–Brazil relations, with both governments committed to building stronger diplomatic and economic ties.
