Cambodia Assumes Presidency of La Francophonie Ministerial Conference, Set to Host 2026 Summit

KIGALI, Rwanda (Nov. 21, 2025) — Cambodia has formally assumed the presidency of the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie, following a handover ceremony Thursday in Kigali.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn represented Cambodia at the event, expressing gratitude to Rwanda as host, to France for chairing the 46th conference, and to the secretary-general of the International Organisation of La Francophonie for what he described as their dedicated efforts.

In his remarks, Sokhonn outlined Cambodia’s priorities as incoming president of the 47th conference and host of the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to ensuring the successful organization of both events.

Sokhonn also spoke on follow-up commitments from the 19th Francophonie Summit, including women’s contributions across Francophone countries, multilateral cooperation, and administrative and financial issues.

La Francophonie is an international organization representing countries and governments that use French as a common language or support French cultural and political cooperation.

Cambodia, a member since 1993, has taken on an increasingly active role in the bloc. Hosting the 2026 summit will mark the first time the country has welcomed the organization’s highest-level gathering.
