Cambodia Warns Against Circulation of Old Border Dispute Images Amid Ongoing Tensions with Thailand

BANTEAY MEANCHEY, Cambodia (Nov. 21, 2025) — Authorities in Banteay Meanchey province have warned the public against circulating outdated or manipulated images of land disputes along the Cambodia–Thailand border, saying the practice fuels confusion and undermines public trust.

The provincial administration said posts about Prey Chan and Chhouk Chey villages in Ou Bei Chuan commune have misled residents into believing new incidents have occurred, when in fact the situation remains unchanged.

Officials noted that the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Survey Team continues its fieldwork, including drone photography, and is installing temporary pillars between boundary markers No. 42 and No. 47. The work follows technical instructions agreed upon by both sides and reflects commitments made at the Joint Border Committee meeting in October.

The administration urged social media users to rely on official sources for updates, stressing that reposting old or falsified content risks inflaming tensions and disrupting the committee’s work.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Information issued a similar warning on Nov. 20, cautioning against the spread of recycled or doctored images. The ministry said some posts have altered dates to create the false impression of ongoing clashes, a tactic that has confused the public and eroded confidence in media institutions.
