Pursat Authorities Halt Heavy-Vehicle Traffic as Rising River Floods City Roads
PURSAT, Cambodia (Nov.21,2025) — Authorities in Pursat City suspended the movement of heavy vehicles after floodwaters from the Pursat River reached emergency levels late Thursday.
The city administration said several roads had been flooded and damaged as the river continued to rise. Officials said the ban was intended to prevent further deterioration of weakened roads and reduce the risk of accidents. Truck owners were instructed to stop using all city roads immediately.
The provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology reported that water levels surged late Thursday, pushing the river to an emergency threshold. The department urged local authorities and communities along the river and connected streams to remain alert and prepare evacuation areas for vulnerable groups.
Pursat provincial governor Khoy Rida said that as of 9:25 p.m., floodwaters continued to threaten residents in Pursat City and Kandieng district. He said a mixed-force team had been deployed to carry out emergency response operations.
By Friday morning, flood conditions in Pursat City had not improved. The city administration warned residents to take extra precautions, noting that a section of road in Rokar Por commune, Roka Por district, had collapsed and was completely submerged.
