PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 18, 2025) — Cambodia and Austria agreed Tuesday to expand bilateral trade, economic investment and political cooperation during a farewell meeting between Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Austrian Ambassador Wehelm Maximilian Donko.

Senate spokesman Chea Thirith said both sides recognized the progress of diplomatic relations and emphasized the need to strengthen commercial ties. Samdech Techo expressed appreciation for Austria’s contributions to mine clearance and support for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, while agreeing with the ambassador’s call to boost trade between the two countries.

Ambassador Donko thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for the meeting and highlighted Austria’s past cooperation with Cambodia in humanitarian and judicial fields. He noted Cambodia’s rapid development in recent years, including visible urban growth, and said Austrian investors are expected to visit Cambodia next month to explore opportunities.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the prospect of increased Austrian investment and said Cambodia hopes to see deeper political collaboration, particularly between the two foreign ministries, to establish mechanisms for continued cooperation.
