Inter-Parliamentary Conference Urges Thailand to Release Detained Cambodian Soldiers

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (Nov. 13, 2025) — The Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) has called on Thailand to immediately release 18 Cambodian soldiers detained after a ceasefire agreement between the two countries came into effect.

In a statement issued following its annual meeting in Islamabad, the ISC said the release would demonstrate “goodwill and sincerity” and help build “mutual trust and confidence” in accordance with humanitarian principles, international law and ASEAN’s commitment to peaceful cooperation.

The conference pledged to continue monitoring developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border and to work with international partners to promote peace, security and development.

The two-day meeting, held Nov. 11–12 under the presidency of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Speaker of Pakistan’s Senate and founding chair of the ISC, brought together Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and parliamentary representatives from more than 45 countries.

Discussions focused on global peace and security challenges, including ongoing conflicts and the impact of natural disasters on development.

Suos Yara, high representative of Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, told delegates that peace remains Cambodia’s “most fundamental foundation,” citing the country’s recovery from decades of civil war under Hun Sen’s “Win-Win Policy.”

Yara reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to U.N. peacekeeping and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration on Peace.

The ISC urged Cambodia and Thailand to fully implement the terms of their recent peace agreement and pursue dialogue, restraint and regional solidarity to resolve border tensions.
