ASEAN Meetings In Manila Bring Together Wang Yi, Marco Rubio and Regional Ministers

PHNOM PENH, July 21, 2026 (KPT) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio are set to attend a series of ASEAN foreign ministers’ meetings in Manila this week as regional leaders discuss security, economic cooperation and Indo‑Pacific issues.

Hosted by the Philippines as ASEAN Chair, the meetings will run from July 22 to 23 and bring together ministers from ASEAN and its dialogue partners.

The programme includes ASEAN Post‑Ministerial Conferences with India, the United States, Canada, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Manila will also host the 27th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum and the 16th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Rubio, visiting Manila from July 19 to 23, is scheduled to attend the ASEAN Post‑Ministerial Conference, the East Asia Summit and the ARF, alongside bilateral meetings with Indo‑Pacific counterparts.

Washington said the trip underscores its commitment to a “free and open Indo‑Pacific” and aims to strengthen US‑ASEAN ties and the US‑Philippines partnership.

Wang Yi will join the China‑ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on July 22 before travelling to Kyrgyzstan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s foreign ministers’ gathering, according to Beijing.

The ASEAN meetings will conclude on July 24 with events marking the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, including a signing ceremony for new parties, a high‑level conference of contracting states and a gala dinner hosted by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Philippine officials said the meetings aim to advance ASEAN’s priorities on peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity.

“As we move into the second half of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship, we remain committed to sustaining the momentum and delivering meaningful outcomes for ASEAN,” Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Charles Jose Imperial said.
