Cambodia, South Korea strengthen cooperation to combat cybercrime

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.10, 2025) — Cambodia and South Korea have agreed to deepen cooperation in combating cybercrime and technology-based fraud, following high-level talks between senior officials in Phnom Penh on Monday.

Chay Sina Rith, deputy prime minister in charge of special missions and chairman of the Commission for Combating Technology-Based Fraud, met with Yoo Jae-Seong, acting commissioner general of the Korean National Police Agency, for a courtesy call and working discussion.

During the meeting, Sina Rith reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to eradicating technology-related crime through the newly established commission, which complements existing law enforcement mechanisms.

He briefed the Korean delegation on recent operations and emphasized the importance of post-operation investigations to identify ringleaders, criminal networks, and financial systems.

Sina Rith welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to create a Cambodia–Korea Joint Task Force targeting cybercrime involving Korean nationals in Cambodia.

He said the initiative reflects Cambodia’s intent to work “closely, trustworthily, and effectively” with international partners to dismantle transnational criminal networks.
Yoo praised Cambodia’s consistent actions aligned with previous bilateral agreements and described the task force as “a symbol of unity and cooperation” and “a strong warning to criminal groups.”

He also thanked Cambodian authorities for their support in repatriating Korean suspects.

Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination between law enforcement agencies and reaffirmed their commitment to joint operations, intelligence sharing, and continued dialogue.
