Cambodia Buys Nearly 10,000 Tons of Rice in One Day to Support Farmers During Harvest
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.07, 2025) — Cambodia’s government purchased nearly 10,000 tons of wet rice from farmers nationwide on Nov. 6, part of a coordinated effort to stabilize prices and prevent crop spoilage during the peak harvest season.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said the rice was collected by partner mills working in close collaboration with local agricultural officers and the Cambodian Rice Federation.
The initiative is expected to scale up throughout November, which covers approximately 1.5 million hectares of cultivated land and could yield between 4 to 5 million tons of wet rice.
“This daily coordination ensures that rice flows continuously from farms to mills, helping farmers avoid losses and maintain income stability,” said Khim Finan, Undersecretary of State and ministry spokesperson.
Participating mills included Phang Li Rice Mill in Banteay Meanchey (500 tons), Amru Rice Company in Battambang and Kampong Thom (1,200 tons), Ngun Hong Stoeng Rice Mill in Kampong Thom (300 tons), and Sine Chhor AFSA in Serey Sophorn (170 tons). Additional mills across the country also contributed.
The ministry said the nationwide collection effort reflects its commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening Cambodia’s agricultural value chain during the critical harvest period.
