Cambodia Bans Energy Drinks Near Schools to Protect Student Health
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov03,2025) — Prime Minister Hun Manet has ordered a nationwide ban on the sale, consumption and promotion of energy drinks in and around general education institutions, citing concerns over student health.
Speaking at the 12th National School Feeding Day in 2025, Hun Manet directed the Ministry of Education to strengthen safety and nutrition measures in public and private schools. He emphasized the importance of nutrition education through school feeding programs that incorporate locally sourced agricultural products.
The prime minister has repeatedly called on authorities to monitor children’s diets, particularly by restricting sugary and energy drinks, amid rising rates of diabetes and other sugar-related health issues among Cambodian youth.
Following his directive, the Ministry of Education has enforced the ban to help prevent noncommunicable diseases linked to the consumption of sugary foods and beverages.
