Cambodia Launches National Carbon Registry to Promote Transparency

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.01,2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment has launched the Cambodia Carbon Registry (CCR), a national database aimed at improving transparency in the country’s carbon credit system.

The launch ceremony was held Friday in Phnom Penh under the presidency of Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth, who also chairs the National Council for Sustainable Development.

About 300 participants attended, including UNDP Resident Representative Enrico Gaveglia, senior officials, and representatives from national and international organizations.

The ministry said the registry offers free public access to data on carbon credits, which represent verified reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The system aligns with Cambodia’s digital and sustainable development goals under the Fifth Strategic Pentagon.

Officials said the CCR will help integrate carbon credits into Cambodia’s Nationally Determined Contribution, part of its strategy to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. The registry also fulfills a requirement under the Paris Agreement for transparent systems to record and manage carbon credit data.

Authorities expect the platform to boost investor confidence, attract green investment, and support national efforts to combat climate change.
