BEIJING, China (Oct. 14, 2025) — Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary on Tuesday urged expanded cooperation with China in culture, education and tourism during a high-level meeting in Beijing.

Khuon, who is leading Cambodia’s delegation to the World Conference on Women, met with Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.

Zhao welcomed the delegation and praised Cambodia’s participation in the conference, saying Khuon’s visit further strengthened bilateral and multilateral ties.

During the meeting, Khuon congratulated China on its rapid development under the leadership of the Communist Party, led by President Xi Jinping.

She cited China’s achievement of its First Centenary Goal in 2021 and expressed confidence in its ability to reach the Second Centenary Goal by 2049 — transforming into a strong, modern socialist country marked by prosperity, democracy, advanced culture and social harmony.

Both leaders reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between their countries, established in 1958, and described Cambodia-China ties as a “comprehensive strategic partnership” and an “ironclad friendship” nurtured by generations of leaders.

This year, designated as the “People-to-People Exchange Year,” has featured a range of activities aimed at strengthening ties between citizens of both nations.

Khuon expressed satisfaction with the “close and fruitful” cooperation across all sectors, which she said reflected mutual trust, respect and shared benefits.

She called on China to enhance collaboration in culture, education and tourism, and to continue supporting Cambodia’s visibility among the Chinese public. She also advocated for deeper cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, technology transfer, industrial capacity building and human resource development.

Khuon highlighted joint development initiatives such as the “Industrial and Technological Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor” as key areas for continued progress.
