Cambodia Calls for Dialogue in Ongoing Border Dispute With Thailand
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.10,2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday it is seeking a cooperative resolution to recent border tensions with Thailand, following developments between Oct. 7 and 9 along their shared frontier.

During a Joint Boundary Commission meeting on Oct. 8, Prime Minister Hun Manet referenced minutes from a Sept. 10 meeting of the 1st Special General Border Committee in Koh Kong province.
The minutes, signed by both countries’ defense ministers, affirmed that border management and demarcation disputes should be addressed through the commission.
The area between Phum Chouk Chey village in Cambodia and Nong Chan in Thailand was identified for joint survey and resolution, with oversight assigned to the Regional Border Committee.
Cambodia said a JBC meeting originally scheduled for September was postponed due to changes in the Thai delegation. Phnom Penh hopes to reschedule soon.
On the same day, Brig. Gen. Nith Narong, head of Cambodia’s RBC secretariat for the 4th Military Region, invited his Thai counterpart and 10 delegates to a preparatory meeting on Oct. 10 in Samrong City, Oddar Meanchey province.
A second invitation was issued for Thailand’s 2nd Army Area to attend RBC talks from Oct. 15–17. Cambodia said the meetings follow mandates from the General Border Committee and agreements reached at an extraordinary RBC session on Aug. 27.
The goal is to implement the ceasefire, restore stability and normalize relations.
An Interim Observer Team inspected the Choam border checkpoint on Oct. 8 to assess conditions following the ceasefire.
As of Oct. 9, 72 days had passed since 18 Cambodian soldiers were detained by Thai forces on July 29, one day after the ceasefire began. Cambodia is calling for their immediate and unconditional release under international humanitarian law.
The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to resolving border issues through peaceful dialogue and urged Thailand to engage constructively through agreed mechanisms.
