Cambodia-Based IMCT Rejects Eviction from Dara Sakor Meditation Site

KOH KONG, Cambodia (Oct. 6, 2025) — A Cambodia-based organization has refused to vacate land designated for a meditation center in Dara Sakor, Koh Kong province, following an eviction notice issued by a Chinese private company.

The dispute centers on allegations that the Cambodian chapter of the International Management Co-operation Team (IMCT) failed to complete construction of the center within the timeline outlined in a 2024 agreement. The Chinese company claims the delay constitutes a breach of contract.

Thourn Sinan, chairman of IMCT and the Samantha Vipassanadhura Dhammacariya Brahma Kesa Dara Sakor, said the company had agreed to provide 25 hectares for development. He attributed construction delays to pending approvals from Cambodian ministries.

“This project is in Cambodia, and we must follow all legal and procedural requirements,” Sinan said.

He described the termination of the agreement as “illegal and unreasonable,” and called on the company to withdraw its eviction notice and comply with directives from the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development.

Sinan alleged that staff were ordered to vacate the site without court or government documentation and accused the company of reclaiming the land due to recent development activity.

The center, he said, offers free services to the Buddhist community and operates legally under Cambodian law. No legal action has been confirmed.
