PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.27, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence on Friday accused Thai military forces of violating a two-month-old ceasefire agreement by attacking Cambodian positions near the An Seh area in Preah Vihear province.

Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata said the incident occurred between 11:52 a.m. and 12:46 p.m. and involved two rounds of mortar and small arms fire aimed at Cambodian troops stationed in An Seh village, Choam Ksan district.

“During this unprovoked attack, Cambodian forces exercised maximum restraint and did not return fire,” Socheata said in a statement. “Our forces strictly adhered to the ceasefire agreement signed with Thailand on July 28.”

The agreement, brokered during a special meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia, involved U.S. President Donald J. Trump, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and representatives from China. It took effect at midnight local time on July 28, 2025. Friday marked the 60th day of its implementation.

Despite the attack, the ministry said the situation at the frontline remained calm from 12:46 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., following the cessation of Thai shelling. Several buildings in the area were reportedly damaged.

Cambodia’s military remains on high alert and is prepared to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the statement said. The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to the ceasefire and urged Thailand to honor the agreement.

“We call on Thailand to uphold its commitments and engage constructively to preserve peace and stability along our shared border,” the statement said.
Tensions between the two countries have historically flared around the disputed border near the Preah Vihear Temple. Recent diplomatic efforts had helped de-escalate the conflict until the latest incident.
