PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth emphasized the potential for young entrepreneurs to access funding from the Green Climate Fund to support Cambodia’s environmental circular strategy.

During a meeting with 13 representatives of the Global 1% Entrepreneurs Association, Sophalleth outlined three strategic pillars aimed at attracting investment and driving sustainable development.

He expressed strong support for youth involvement in addressing climate change and highlighted Cambodia’s successful submission of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) plan to the United Nations.

“These strategic plans of Cambodia are what help us secure significant funding from the Green Climate Fund for cross-sectoral implementation,” Sophalleth said.

The minister encouraged entrepreneurs and stakeholders to develop project proposals that align with climate fund criteria, particularly in STEM education, where smart technologies can help address environmental challenges and promote sustainable resource use. Cambodia’s recent accreditation as an official entity further strengthens its eligibility for such funding.

Sophalleth also advised young entrepreneurs to adopt a “clean mindset” to attract investors.

“We must make sure our own house is clean before we invite our friends — the investors — over to visit,” he said.

He outlined three strategic pillars for success: internal unity to work together as a cohesive team; understanding needs to clearly identify and assess actual requirements; and transparent partnerships to build international collaborations that improve the livelihoods of the Cambodian people.
