PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept. 8, 2025) — Singapore International University is exploring the possibility of establishing an Artificial Intelligence Innovation Center or an Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials in Cambodia, aimed at boosting innovation capacity and promoting Cambodian enterprises in the global market.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting on Sept. 8 between Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron and Dr. Konstantin Novoselov, Nobel Laureate in Physics and professor at Singapore International University.

According to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Dr. Novoselov proposed two initiatives: identifying outstanding Cambodian students in physics to join research projects and exchange programs in Singapore, and assessing the feasibility of launching an AI-focused institute in Cambodia.

Minister Hang welcomed the proposals, emphasizing Cambodia’s commitment to enhancing scientific cooperation. He noted that several science-based programs have already been implemented in public and private schools, with a focus on practical learning through collaboration with national and international universities.
The minister also reaffirmed Cambodia’s long-term education strategy, highlighting plans to integrate STEM education into the national curriculum. He said the ministry is prioritizing project-based learning, particularly through New Generation Schools, to equip Cambodian youth with foundational knowledge and 21st-century skills aligned with the country’s 2030–2050 development goals.
