Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Sept.3,2025)— Vietnam has voiced support for resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict through peaceful means and in accordance with international law, according to Cambodian People’s Party spokesperson Chea Thyrith.

Thyrith said the position was conveyed during a meeting in Hanoi between Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He noted that Vietnam’s leadership emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong and effective ceasefire to prevent renewed armed conflict.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, reflecting on Cambodia’s post-conflict transformation since achieving full peace in 1998, reiterated two key goals: converting former battlefields into marketplaces and turning border areas into zones of peace, friendship, cooperation and joint development.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed regret over the border tensions with Thailand, describing the conflict as “a bad dream between the two countries,” and voiced hope that the situation would normalize soon.

Thyrith said Vietnam’s stance remains consistent: it supports a peaceful resolution based on international law and encourages both parties to restore stability.

Separately, during a meeting in Beijing, the Vietnamese prime minister told Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet that “Cambodia is a good friend of Vietnam, regardless of the circumstances,” Thyrith added.
