Xi Calls for ASEAN Observer Team to Monitor Cambodia-Thailand Border Dispute
BEIJING (Sept. 2, 2025) — Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s support for the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand and backed the ASEAN Interim Observer Team (IOT), led by Malaysia.
He also called for the swift establishment of a permanent ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to monitor the ongoing border tensions between the two countries.

During a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Xi said the Chinese government had provided 20 million yuan in humanitarian aid to Cambodia to help rebuild damaged areas and ease the hardships of civilians affected by armed clashes in late July.

Hun Manet thanked China for its active role in facilitating the ceasefire, calling it a critical step toward protecting civilian lives and restoring livelihoods in conflict-affected areas.
