Cambodian, Myanmar Party Leaders Exchange Views on Democratic Transitions and Youth Roles

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Aug. 28, 2025) — Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Acting Head of State, welcomed U Khin Yi, Chairman of Myanmar’s Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), for a courtesy visit and working discussion at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh on Thursday evening.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly greeted U Khin Yi and his delegation, marking their second visit to Cambodia following their participation in the 12th ICAPP General Assembly in 2024. He noted that this visit carries special significance, contributing to the strengthening of ties between the two parties.

U Khin Yi expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to meet Samdech Techo Hun Sen again, praising his leadership and experience in guiding Cambodia’s development and political stability. He also commended the CPP’s institutional strength and human resources, and reaffirmed USDP’s commitment to enhancing cooperation—particularly among youth and in media engagement.

During the meeting, U Khin Yi briefed Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Myanmar’s evolving political landscape and preparations for national elections scheduled for late 2025. He extended an invitation for Hun Sen to visit Myanmar at a mutually convenient time.

Samdech Techo He emphasized that a memorandum of understanding between the two parties would further reinforce cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

He also shared insights into the CPP’s organizational development and electoral strategy, underscoring the importance of youth engagement and institutional renewal. Hun Sen noted that Cambodia’s recent leadership transition was not only a change in government but also a generational shift, reflecting the country’s democratic evolution.

 Samdech Techo Hun Sen accepted U Khin Yi’s invitation to visit Myanmar in his capacity as CPP President and wished the delegation a pleasant stay in Cambodia.
