PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Aug. 27, 2025) — Cambodia and Japan expressed satisfaction and high appreciation for the continued progress in bilateral cooperation, including political engagement, trade, investment, security, development assistance, mine clearance and the removal of explosive remnants of war. The cooperation spans both bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

The remarks followed a meeting Wednesday morning between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Hideo Suzuki, Ambassador for Mekong Cooperation at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Phnom Penh.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, emphasizing the importance of promoting peace and restoring relations to normalcy. They called for full implementation of ceasefire agreements, restraint, engagement at all levels, exploration of humanitarian demining efforts and the reopening of border crossings.

On behalf of the Royal Government and the Cambodian people, Prak expressed sincere appreciation to the Government of Japan for its continued support for peace, development and humanitarian assistance to displaced persons along the border.
Later the same day, Suzuki also met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Tea Seiha.
