Cambodia Hosts Border Committee Meeting With Thailand Amid Ceasefire Efforts
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Aug. 25, 2025) — Cambodia and Thailand convened an emergency meeting of the Regional Border Committee (RBC) on Monday morning, with Cambodia serving as host, to advance military-to-military dialogue and reinforce the implementation of the bilateral ceasefire agreement.

According to Defense Ministry spokesperson Gen. Mali Socheata, the Cambodian delegation was led by Gen. Ek Sam On, commander of Military Region 5, while the Thai side was headed by Rear Adm. Aphichat Sapprasert, commander of the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defense Command.
The meeting followed a technical-level RBC session held Sunday and marked the third RBC engagement this month. Previous meetings included Cambodian Military Region 3 and Thailand’s Chanthaburi-Trat command on Aug. 16, and Military Region 5 with Thailand’s Region 1 command on Aug. 22 in Sa Kaeo province.

Gen. Socheata said the emergency session reaffirmed the importance of sustained communication between regional military units and border forces to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid escalation, in line with the spirit of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC).
Cambodia expressed hope that the meeting would yield positive outcomes to strengthen ceasefire enforcement and restore peace, stability and normalcy along the border.
