Cambodia, Myanmar Pledge Joint Efforts to Combat Online Scams
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Aug. 21, 2025) — Cambodia and Myanmar have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to combat and dismantle online scams, following a high-level meeting between Cambodian and Myanmar officials in Phnom Penh.

Chhay Sinarith, Deputy Minister and Chairman of Cambodia’s Secretariat for Countering Technology-Driven Scams, met with Kyaw Soe Min, Myanmar’s Ambassador to Cambodia, to discuss joint efforts in tackling cyber fraud and cross-border criminal networks.
During the meeting, Chhay emphasized the importance of coordinated action under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, noting that Cambodia is expanding both bilateral and multilateral cooperation to improve enforcement and intelligence sharing. He called on Myanmar to assist in identifying suspicious actors, sharing investigative data, and facilitating the repatriation of detained Myanmar nationals for further questioning and legal proceedings.

Ambassador Kyaw praised Cambodia’s experience and commitment in addressing technology-driven scams, reaffirming Myanmar’s determination to crack down on cybercrime and share best practices. He said Cambodia’s enforcement measures have contributed to regional stability and security.
Both sides described the meeting as a constructive step toward deeper collaboration, with a shared goal of reducing online fraud, improving investigative capacity, and promoting peace and stability across the region.
