Cambodia, UNDP Strengthen Ties Amid Regional and Global Challenges
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Aug. 20, 2025) — Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, who also serves as Cambodia’s foreign minister, met Wednesday with Enrico Gaveglia, the newly appointed United Nations Development Programme resident representative to Cambodia.

During the courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Gaveglia presented his letter of credence and was welcomed by Prak, who congratulated him on the appointment. Prak affirmed the ministry’s readiness to coordinate with relevant agencies to support Gaveglia’s mission.
Prak expressed appreciation for UNDP’s ongoing assistance to the Cambodian government, particularly in social protection. He urged continued support in areas including mine clearance, renewable energy, social equity, youth engagement, cybersecurity, and climate change.
Gaveglia said he was pleased to take up the post in Cambodia and highlighted UNDP’s role in supporting the country’s development goals, including the Pentagonal Strategy Phase I and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He also praised Cambodia’s post-pandemic recovery efforts.

The deputy prime minister briefed Gaveglia on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border and broader geopolitical and economic challenges. He reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached July 28 and to resolving disputes peacefully under international law.
Prak concluded the meeting by reaffirming Cambodia’s willingness to work closely with UNDP and extended his best wishes for Gaveglia’s tenure.
