PM orders talks to ease workers’ transport costs amid fuel price rise

PHNOM PENH, March 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s prime minister has ordered urgent talks between employers and labour unions to ease rising transportation costs for workers as global fuel prices push up living expenses.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said he had instructed Labour Minister Heng Sour to convene discussions “as soon as possible” to identify measures that could reduce the financial burden on workers.

“The goal is to find solutions that ease transportation expenses during this transitional period,” the premier wrote on his official social media page, expressing hope both sides would reach “reasonable common ground” that supports workers while safeguarding industry competitiveness.

Fuel price increases have become a significant concern for household incomes, particularly for manufacturing workers who rely heavily on daily transport.

The move highlights the government’s focus on cushioning the impact of global price pressures on Cambodia’s workforce, which plays a central role in driving economic growth.
