Cambodia Lodges Protest Over Thai Border Activities

PHNOM PENH, March 21, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has lodged a formal protest against Thailand, accusing its armed forces of violating Cambodian sovereignty despite a ceasefire agreement signed late last year.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said incidents have persisted along the frontier since the December 27, 2025 truce. In Boeung Trakuon, smoke was reported rising from three houses inside Cambodian territory under Thai occupation.
In Oddar Meanchey province, Thai forces were said to be clearing land and building roads and concrete structures stretching from K’nar Temple toward Ta Krabey Temple.
On March 18, Thai troops accompanied by forestry and land officials allegedly surveyed and allocated three plots of land to Thai citizens in Chouk Chey village, Banteay Meanchey province, between boundary pillars 46 and 47.
Phnom Penh stressed it does not recognize any unilateral territorial claims and warned the activities would not affect Cambodia’s legal rights over the border demarcation.
The government urged Thailand to halt such operations, avoid unilateral moves, and honor agreements aimed at easing tensions and preserving peace.
Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully under international law and bilateral accords, insisting that borders must not be altered by force.
