PHNOM PENH, Mar. 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment is working with development partners to secure funding from the Green Climate Fund to support forest protection and long term climate goals, officials said Wednesday.

The proposal seeks results based payments under the REDD+ programme to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

Speaking at a validation workshop in Phnom Penh on March 24, Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth said the initiative would mobilise essential resources for Cambodia’s climate agenda.

He praised the United Nations Development Programme as a key partner providing technical and financial support.

The ministry said the plan aligns with national strategies, including the government’s Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1, the Environmental Sector Strategy 2023–2028 and the Climate Change Strategic Plan 2024–2033.

It also supports Cambodia’s latest Nationally Determined Contribution and long term carbon neutrality strategy.

The workshop brought together government officials, development partners, civil society and indigenous representatives to review the proposal before submission to the Green Climate Fund.
