PM Hun Manet Joins One Health Summit in France

LYON, April 8, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Tuesday attended the opening of the One Health Summit in Lyon, joining world leaders to discuss global health challenges.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet took part in the opening ceremony and contributed to discussions on communicable diseases, one of the summit’s central themes.
The gathering brought together heads of state, scientists and international organisations to address the links between human, animal and environmental health.
French President Emmanuel Macron, co-chairing the summit, said 75 percent of emerging infectious diseases originate in animals, stressing the need for a coordinated global response based on “free, open and independent” science.
Co-chair John Dramani Mahama warned of increasing cross-border health threats driven by environmental pressures.
During the summit, the European Commission announced a €700 million contribution to the next funding cycle of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Commissioner Jozef Síkela said €185 million would be disbursed in the first year, alongside €46.5 million to strengthen health security cooperation between Europe and Africa.
The “One Health” approach seeks to balance and optimise the health of people, animals, plants and ecosystems, recognising their close interconnection.
The summit, held from April 6 to 9 in Lyon and Paris, is the first to convene global leaders at this level to accelerate action on the initiative.
Hun Manet is leading a high-level Cambodian delegation, following an invitation from Macron as part of France’s G7 presidency.
