Cambodian PM sends New Year message to displaced families, troops

PHNOM PENH, April 13, 2026 (KPT) – Prime Minister Hun Manet has extended Khmer New Year greetings to displaced citizens and armed forces personnel, as border tensions with Thailand continue to displace thousands.
In a message posted on April 13, Hun Manet wished safe journeys and joyful reunions to those travelling home, while sending regards to families unable to return and soldiers stationed nationwide. He expressed hopes for health, longevity and success in the year ahead.
The premier paid tribute to troops deployed along the frontier, praising their role in defending the nation.
“I would like to send my regards to all heroic soldiers who continue to stand guard… as well as to our brothers and sisters who are displaced and staying in temporary shelters,” he said.
Authorities report more than 34,000 people remain displaced as of April 12, many prevented from returning by damaged homes and unexploded ordnance.
Officials say some areas remain inaccessible, with reports alleging Thai military positions have blocked residents in certain locations.
Hun Manet has previously acknowledged the hardship faced by families who lost homes built over years, urging resilience while the government works to address the crisis.
