Chinese envoy visits displaced families in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, April 13, 2026 (KPT) – Chinese ambassador Wang Wenbin has visited displaced families in north-west Cambodia, delivering humanitarian aid and assessing living conditions at temporary shelters in Banteay Meanchey Province.
The envoy toured the Veterans’ Housing area in Slakram Village, Svay Chek District, on April 12, where about 1,700 families uprooted by recent border clashes with Thailand are staying.
Aid was distributed during the visit, with the ambassador checking on residents’ welfare. China has stepped up assistance since fighting flared along the frontier, sending relief supplies and mine-clearing equipment to support Cambodia’s humanitarian operations.
The latest shipment follows an initial delivery on December 28, 2025, and a January transfer of mine action gear.
Most recently, Beijing provided humanitarian aid worth 20 million yuan ($2.8 million) to help refugees displaced by military tensions near the Cambodia–Thailand border, underscoring ongoing cooperation between the two governments in crisis response.
