PHNOM PENH, April 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian police said crime fell and security was maintained nationwide during this year’s Khmer New Year holiday, with celebrations proceeding smoothly across the country.

At a meeting on April 19, Deputy National Police Chief Lieutenant General Dy Vichea, representing Commissioner General Sar Thet, reviewed operations over the three day festival.

Officials said security arrangements allowed events at entertainment venues, pagodas and tourist sites to conclude without major disruption.

According to a report presented by Major General Chan Samphat, overall crime dropped 16 percent compared with last year, while the rate of successful crackdowns reached 91 percent.

Police also reported fewer road accidents, fatalities and injuries. Authorities acknowledged some traffic congestion in urban areas but said it was effectively managed.

A central command committee operated around the clock between April 14 and 19 to monitor incidents nationwide.

Officials said the measures created a safe environment for travel, family reunions and traditional activities, reinforcing public confidence in security forces.
