PHNOM PENH, April 22, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has lodged a strong protest against what it described as continued Thai activities at Ta Krabey Temple, a disputed site along the frontier.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the ministry said Thai officials and affiliated groups had organised visits, gatherings and infrastructure works at the temple, which Phnom Penh considers part of its sovereign territory.

The ministry noted it had raised objections in formal communications on January 30, April 13 and April 22, but claimed Thai authorities persisted despite repeated protests.

It described the developments, including the reported presence of senior Thai culture and defence ministers at the site, as an attempt to create a “fait accompli.”

Cambodia said the actions violated international agreements, including the 1907 Franco‑Siamese Treaty, related boundary documents and a 2000 memorandum of understanding, as well as UN Charter principles.

Cambodia urged Thailand to halt activities, withdraw personnel and resume talks under the Joint Boundary Commission to resolve the dispute peacefully.
