PHNOM PENH, April 23, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Thipadie Hun Manet met China’s foreign and defence ministers in Phnom Penh as both sides pledged to deepen what they described as an “ironclad” partnership, officials said Thursday.

During talks at the Peace Palace on April 22, Samdech Thipadie received Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun, who co chaired the inaugural “2+2 Strategic Dialogue Mechanism” between the countries’ foreign and defence ministries.

The Chinese delegation conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, and thanked Cambodia for its hospitality.

Wang praised Cambodia’s economic progress and described bilateral ties as an “all weather” partnership, underscoring Beijing’s commitment to closer political and economic cooperation.

Samdech Thipadie Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia’s support for the “One China” policy and expressed gratitude for China’s assistance in national development, including medical support for King Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure, defence, agriculture and clean energy, while exchanging views on regional and international issues.

The meeting highlighted Cambodia’s role in advancing regional stability and its alignment with China’s broader strategic initiatives.

Samdech Thipadie Hun Manet also briefed the Chinese ministers on recent developments along the Cambodia–Thailand border, stressing Phnom Penh’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully in line with international law and existing agreements.

The talks mark a further consolidation of Cambodia–China relations, with leaders on both sides emphasizing resilience and long term collaboration across economic and security sectors.
