PHNOM PENH, April 23, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and China co chaired their first “2+2” strategic dialogue in Phnom Penh, bringing together senior officials from both countries’ foreign and defence ministries in a bid to deepen political trust and expand military cooperation.

The meeting on April 22 was led by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Defence Minister Tea Seiha, alongside China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun.

Cambodia’s foreign ministry said the dialogue reflected a shared commitment to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and advancing what both sides describe as an “all weather” community with a shared future.

Separately, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet met the visiting Chinese ministers at the Peace Palace, where both sides pledged to reinforce cooperation across trade, infrastructure, defence, agriculture and clean energy.

Wang praised Cambodia’s economic progress and reiterated Beijing’s view of bilateral ties as an “all weather” partnership.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s support for the “One China” policy and expressed gratitude for China’s assistance in national development, including medical support for King Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother.

He also briefed the delegation on developments along the Cambodia–Thailand border, stressing Phnom Penh’s commitment to peaceful resolution in line with international law.

The talks mark a further consolidation of Cambodia–China relations, underscoring resilience and long term collaboration across economic and security sectors.
